This "Old World" cherry mantle board was carved by artisan Chris Niles
using the same meticulous carving techniques of generations gone by.
These crisp well-defined lines and features in carved wood can only be
achieved through Hand Carving.
Chris also uses a more contemporary form of hand carving known
as "power carving." This method employs a hand held tool powered through
a flex shaft and carves the wood using various bits. This method offers moreversatility and speed than the "old world" method mentioned above butstill produces the intricate detail and creativity that can only be attained with the human touch. The closeup view of a carved door below illustrates the
detail and realism that can be achieved with this method.
